How do I see if I have marked a name for indexing in BalfourTools?

Track the names already in your index using BalfourTools

You can see what names you have marked for indexing by going to Type>Show Hidden Characters in InDesign. The will show a chevron at the beginning of the name indicating it's marked. You can also view all index entries on spread by going to Window>Type and Tables>Index.
